The Great Haircut 2010: I'm only the teensiest bit devastated.

So, we started out the day like this.

And then we kept having this discussion about hair getting in eyes.  So, then we learned a lesson about why you don't go to Great Clips in a strip mall.

Because if you ask for a trim, it might end up like this:

Dorky to the max.  It was OVER his ears and what are those bangs?!!?!?!

So then Mama convinces you that maybe perhaps possibly you might enjoy looking like a SOLDIER!

And voila!  The dad delivereth this:

Maybe we'll see the curls again for Christmas.

The Blue Brothers

Quick updates:

John FINALLY agreed to get a haircut. Except, he wants a mohawk now. Argh. Regarding the brain beneath all that hair ... he's now able to out-reason me. Double Argh.

Sam is definitely on the move ... he does funny sort of "hitch" crawl that gets the job done. Now I've really got to start sweeping. I found part of a garlic clove in his mouth earlier today.

My First 5k!

I'm glad it's done.

And that's all I have to say about that.

The garden doth bring forth a bounteous harvest.

Tonight I reveled in the act of pulling carrots, cutting basil, and pinching chard with Annie and John. Here's how it went:

Annie: "Miss Kim, can I pull a carrot?"

MK: "Yes, of course you can. And you can keep whatever you pull."

Annie (yelling across the yard): "MOM!!! Miss Kim said I can KEEP a carrot!!!"

John: "Annie, next we're gonna cut the basil!"

Annie: "I know. It smells GOOOOD!! Miss Kim, can I cut some?"

MK: "Yes, of course you can. And you can keep whatever you cut."

Annie (yelling across the yard): "MOM!!! Miss Kim said I can KEEP a basil and it smells good!!!"

See, I am not into crafts. In fact, when crafts are combined with children, I check out. But give me some dirt with stuff growing in it, and children who are excited about it, and I can deal.

The Maternal Grandparents Visit and Get a Hotel with a Pool

I know: She looks about 20 years younger than she is.  (Wanna know her secret?  Vaseline.)

Red shirts.

I really wish this next one had come out clearer because I love this photo.

The author is glad that this one includes only her head, shoulders, & offspring.

The finale was a lovely 2-hour swimming spree in which Sam napped in Macy's arms, Grandaddy watched and fetched things, John swam the width of the pool 11 times (freestyle with side breaths!!!), and I just enjoyed it all.

Argh Mateys!

Pirate Camp was a huge success. I was concerned that the Montessori/Waldorf style would not suit John, but he loved it all and got loads of booty.

And his hair is finally long enough to put in a pirate ponytail. Grandaddy, don't keel over.
