Vacations

Recently we returned from two fabulous trips: one with the Paces to visit Mississippi, and the other with the Beckers/Povondras to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Here are a few of my faves ... there are more to come of course.

2011 Crieve Hall Farm Champions!

4 games, 6 hours, 19 RBIs for John-John!!!
Go Storm!!!

This is the email his coach sent after the tournament:

All teams are special-- a group of kids briefly collected together to share some amazing moments together-- but this team was beyond special.  Watching these kids grow from barely knowing which hand to put a glove on into the veteran, dirt-stained, rough-and-tumble little ballplayers we all saw on Saturday-- I've never been a part of anything more gratifying to behold.  I know we're all so proud-- but I promise you, I've never seen anything more awe-inspiring in my life than watching those kids on Saturday. What an amazing display of guts, and simple joy for a game many of them barely understood a few months ago.  Your kids have shown us all something amazing.  I know I learned a lot this Spring, and most especially on Saturday.

The Harpeth

My original title was "Paddling the Harpeth." I changed my mind because I felt guilty insinuating that I somehow contributed to the push of the canoe down the river.

It's difficult to paddle whilst holding a Bam, who was alternately fascinated and annoyed by being in a canoe.

One of the outcomes of his annoyance was the loss of my sunglasses, which plunged, in seeming slow motion, from my face into pudgy, dirty hands, and finally to the bottom of the river.

Let's see ... other things I remember about this trip:

  • It was hot.

  • I didn't pack enough snacks.

  • The seats in the canoe necessitated a trip to the chiropractor.

  • Sam had a special chair. Which he sat in for approximately 1% of the 2 mile float.

But what really matters is that John and Brian had fun and on the way home I bought Chick-Fil-A to console myself.

So, all is well. Except I am squinting a lot and regretting the waffle fries.

One thing I've learned as a mother: Things just aren't as fun when you have to unload the car.

For Great Grandpa B ...

This is an outfit that GGB got for JOhn when he was Sam's age. I saved it! Can you believe it? I sell everything, but somehow, this is still with us.
